Phortse
Phortse, located at an altitude of 3,840 meters (12,598 feet), is a picturesque village in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Phortse is off the main trekking circuit, giving it a more authentic, traditional Sherpa village atmosphere compared to more commercialized stops. The village offers trekkers a peaceful retreat with breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, including Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kangtega.
The village is home to a few teahouses and lodges, where trekkers can rest, enjoy traditional Sherpa cuisine, and experience the quiet charm of the region. Phortse’s location provides an excellent opportunity for trekkers to acclimatize.
A unique feature of Phortse is its high trail connection to Pangboche, offering trekkers spectacular views across the valley. This trail can be used as an alternative to the standard route through Tengboche, providing a quieter and more scenic option. The surrounding natural beauty and wildlife, such as yaks, blue sheep, and a variety of bird species, make Phortse a memorable and tranquil stop on the Everest trek.
Due to its relatively remote location and its status as an acclimatization point, Phortse remains a hidden gem, providing an authentic and serene experience in the Khumbu region.
