Monjo

Gateway to the Sagarmatha National Park

Monjo, located at an altitude of 2,835 meters (9,300 feet), is a small village in the Khumbu region of Nepal, situated along the route to Everest Base Camp. Located just beyond Phakding and before reaching Jorsalle, Monjo serves as one of the first key stops for trekkers in the Sagarmatha National Park. The village is especially notable for its proximity to the park entrance, where trekkers are required to register before continuing their journey into the protected area.

Monjo is a peaceful settlement, offering a few teahouses and lodges where trekkers can rest, have a meal, and prepare for the next stage of their trek. The village is surrounded by lush forests, rhododendron trees, and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountain peaks. It is a great place to enjoy the tranquility of the Khumbu region and catch the first glimpses of the Himalayas.

While small, Monjo plays an essential role in the trekking route, providing trekkers with the opportunity to acclimatize slightly before continuing the more challenging parts of the trek toward Namche Bazaar and higher elevations. The Sagarmatha National Park entrance and its conservation efforts are significant features of Monjo, as the park is home to the Everest and many other famous peaks, as well as a variety of wildlife and plant species.
