Machermo

A Quiet Acclimatization Stop on the Gokyo Lakes Trek

Machhermo, located at an altitude of 4,470 meters (14,663 feet), is a small but vital village on the Gokyo Lakes trek in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Situated between Dole and Gokyo, it serves as an important acclimatization stop for trekkers ascending to the higher altitudes of the Everest region. The village is known for its breathtaking views of Thamserku, Kantega, and Cho Oyu, which are prominent peaks in the region.

Machhermo is a peaceful and relatively quiet stop, with a few teahouses and lodges where trekkers can rest and enjoy some warm food before continuing their journey to Gokyo or tackling the challenging Gokyo Ri. The area is also renowned for its clean, crisp air, and panoramic views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains and glacial landscapes. The village is also significant for its acclimatization value, as the climb to Machhermo marks the beginning of the high-altitude section of the trek. From here, trekkers can continue their journey towards Gokyo Lakes, or use it as a base for further exploration of the region.
