Khunde

A Tranquil Sherpa Settlement in the Khumbu Region!

Located in the Solukhumbu District of Nepal, Khunde is a serene Sherpa village situated at 3,840 meters (12,600 feet) above sea level. It lies just above Khumjung and is surrounded by the breathtaking peaks of the Himalayas, including Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Everest.

Khunde is best known for the Khunde Hospital, established by Sir Edmund Hillary in 1966. This hospital has been a lifeline for the local Sherpa communities, providing medical care in this remote region. The village is also home to traditional Sherpa houses, prayer flags, and stunning alpine landscapes, offering a peaceful atmosphere for trekkers and visitors.

Together with Khumjung, Khunde forms a key part of the cultural and historical heart of the Everest region, reflecting the rich traditions and resilience of the Sherpa people.
