Chheplung

The first village after Lukla!

Chheplung is a small, charming village located along the trail to Everest Base Camp (EBC), situated at an altitude of around 2,660 meters (8,727 feet). It lies on the route between Lukla and Phakding, making it an early stop for trekkers starting their journey to Everest.

Chheplung is known for its peaceful atmosphere and scenic beauty, offering views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, including Thamserku and Kantega. The village is nestled in a lush valley, with terraced fields, small Sherpa homes, and a few teahouses that cater to trekkers and locals. The Dudh Koshi River, which runs through the region, adds to the village’s tranquility as it flows nearby.

Though Chheplung is a smaller settlement compared to some of the other stops on the Everest Base Camp trek, it is an important part of the journey for those starting the trek from Lukla. The village offers a chance for trekkers to rest, take in the beauty of the landscape, and experience the peaceful ambiance of the Sherpa villages in the Everest region. The path from Chheplung to Phakding is relatively gentle and easy, making it a perfect stop to acclimatize and get a feel for the trek ahead.
