Benkar

A Scenic Village on the Everest Base Camp Trek

Benkar is a small Sherpa village located along the route to Everest Base Camp (EBC), nestled at an altitude of around 2,650 meters (8,694 feet). It is a peaceful stop on the way from Lukla to Namche Bazaar, offering trekkers a chance to rest and enjoy the surrounding beauty. The village is set amidst stunning Himalayan landscapes, with views of the towering peaks like Thamserku and Kantega.

Benkar is often seen as a tranquil point for trekkers to acclimatize and catch their breath. It is located on the banks of the Dudh Koshi River, with a backdrop of lush forests and snow-capped mountains. The village itself is a mix of traditional Sherpa homes and small teahouses that cater to trekkers. Many travelers stop here briefly for a meal or rest before continuing on to Namche Bazaar, where the trek becomes more challenging.

The walk from Benkar to Monjo (which is close to Sagarmatha National Park) is particularly scenic, as trekkers pass through verdant forests and cross suspension bridges over the river. Benkar’s peaceful atmosphere, combined with its stunning surroundings, makes it a memorable stop on the Everest Base Camp trek. It offers an opportunity to experience the authentic Sherpa culture and the natural beauty of the region in a quieter, less crowded setting.
