Established in 1966 by Sir Edmund Hillary, the hospital was built in response to a direct request from the local Sherpa community — and continues to be a beacon of hope for thousands in this remote, high-altitude region.

  • Provides primary eye care for residents and visitors in Sagarmatha National Park

  • Is equipped with modern ophthalmic equipment

  • Offers:

    • Vision screening

    • Cataract surgery

    • Other basic eye treatments

  • Staffed seasonally by:

    • An ophthalmic technician (in peak seasons)

    • A trained nurse (off-season)
