Thamo

Thamo is a small Sherpa village in the Khumbu region of Nepal, located at an altitude of approximately 3,500 meters. It lies on the trail leading to Thame, slightly off the main Everest Base Camp route, making it a quieter and less crowded stop for trekkers.

Thamo is known for its traditional Sherpa culture and is home to the Thamo Nunnery (Kani Gompa), where Buddhist nuns practice meditation and rituals. The village offers stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks and provides a peaceful resting point for trekkers heading towards Thame and the remote Nangpa La Pass.

With its serene environment, rich spiritual heritage, and welcoming Sherpa community, Thamo is a great place to experience the cultural depth of the Khumbu region away from the more commercialized trekking hubs.
