Kala Patthar

The Best Viewpoint of Everest

Kala Patthar is one of the most famous trekking destinations in the Everest region, offering the best panoramic view of Mount Everest. Situated at an altitude of 5,545 meters (18,192 feet), this rocky viewpoint is the highest elevation many trekkers reach on the Everest Base Camp trek.

Despite its name, which means “Black Rock” in Nepali, Kala Patthar is known for its breathtaking sunrise and sunset views over Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Pumori. Since the actual Everest summit is not visible from Base Camp, trekkers climb Kala Patthar to witness an unobstructed, close-up view of the world’s highest peak.

Kala Patthar is a must-visit for photographers, adventurers, and anyone wanting a legendary view of Everest. Though the climb is steep and physically demanding due to the thin air, the reward at the top is one of the most iconic sights in the world.
